Review:
Unbelievable, the
second book of the Port Fare series was worth the wait. This book is set about
two years after the first book and even if this one concentrates on Cole and
Lilah you get a glimpse of your favourite characters, Bookers, Maggie and
dreamy Seth.
If the first book was
pretty dark this one is much...’lighter’. There is the underlying revenge but
still, the story makes you laugh more than once to silly situation which was
not really the case of book 1.
I really liked called
in this book, I didn’t really get to know him in the previous story but here
you get to see a very shy (he is flushing quite often when embarrassed and I
found that very cute), goodie-goodie, clumsy, a bit solemn, completely
dedicated to his career...letting his life passing by.
Lilah, is a very
colourful living character, and even if her initial intention are to get
revenge for her father she is the breeze of fresh air that was much needed in
Cole life. She seems to be conflicted from the start of the story and the
deeper she gets in her lies, the guiltier she feels and the more terrified she
is to lose Cole and the new friends she made.
She gets on my nerve a few times though when she refuses to see the
truth.
The interactions
between these two are priceless and I think it’s their differences that make
them perfect for each other. She brings the much needed craziness in his life.
The story is well
written, and even if the plot is quote predicable, there are still a couple of
things I didn’t see coming while reading. One of this plot ‘surprise’ I’m not
very sure how I feel about. It seems just like it’s just a tad ‘too much’ as if
was just thrown on top of it all just to add a bit more drama, it just came out
of nowhere but it is something that can be easily disregarded.
Conclusion: All in
all, I would say this second book is a good summer reading, it’s a quick book
that will keep you entertained from start to finish. It has pretty good
characters, a good writing and a more or less consistent plot (much better than
other romance novel out there). Fan of
contemporary romances, you will enjoy this book.

Excerpt:
Cole, Seth Maggie and joined by Booker for dinner
at Seth's house:
I
took a bite of chicken. Delicious.
I needed to learn how to cook. “And I’d appreciate it if you two would stop
trying to fix me up. I’m more than capable of finding my own woman when I’m
ready. Why don’t you fix Booker up?” I suggested.
“Yeah,
right. Where do you suggest we find a woman for Booker? I can’t wait to see the
woman who finally nails him down,” Maggie said with a laugh. “She’ll have to be
a saint.”
“True,
a mere mortal will never do for me,” Booker said, waltzing into the room.
“Hello,
Book,” Seth said. “How did you get out of work already?”
“I
can do whatever I want. Remember, I’m sleeping with the captain, my friend,” he
grinned.
“You
are the captain,” I laughed.
“And
I sleep with myself every night.” His eyes darted to the table. “Hey, I’m just
in time. Lemon chicken.” He grabbed a piece, but paused before putting it in
his mouth. He sniffed at it, as if testing a fine wine. “Wait, who made this?”
He eyeballed Maggie playfully. “You did, didn’t you, Magpie?” Booker guessed.
“I
’m not telling, Sylvester,” she retorted as he scooped a second piece and
slipped it into his mouth. “Bad kitty. It’s terrible manners to eat from the
serving plate. Sit.” Maggie pulled out his chair.
He
grabbed the plate and serviced up a larger portion than Maggie had already
given him. The guy could pack it away...
...“So,
Cole, how’s your girlfriend doing?” Booker asked, taking a large bite.
“She’s
not my girlfriend. She’s a nice girl you hired to redo my office,” I said,
slightly exasperated with all this Lilah talk. I’d been fighting to keep her
off my mind. I certainly didn’t need everyone bringing her front and center
into the conversation. “Seth’s trying to convince me to ask her out.”
“How
come you never try and fix me up?” Booker complained.
“We
haven’t found anyone special enough,” Seth answered. We all
laughed, even Booker.
“Good,
I’ll never marry ever again. Never. Mark my words. I don’t even want to date.
I’m enjoying the carefree life I live. No woman around to demand I fix this, or
watch some silly chick flick.” He shuddered playfully.
“Going
home to an empty house, and sleeping in an empty bed. No one to talk with at
night or go on long walks with in the fall,” I added softly.
Everyone
got quiet.
“I
am so fixing you up with Lilah,” Maggie said, breaking the awkward silence.

Deliah Lopez Dreser’s in town to take care of family business. They say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, but there’s more to Lilah than meets the eye. Cole’s in danger of losing his heart when this firestorm throws sparks his way. However, is she simply playing him for the fool in order to exact revenge for her brother’s murders?
Maggie and Seth’s reaction when the truth is revealed pushes friendship to the limit. And this time around it won’t be a Dreser causing an uproar in Port Fare. It will be Cole's good friend Booker. But does Booker have it all wrong? Usually not!
