2nd Anniversary Celebration Featurin: Karly Kirkpatrick (giveaway)

Next we have Karly Kirkpatrick, author of Bloody Little Secrets and the Into The Shadows Trilogy.
Before she talks to us about books I would like you to have a little more info on her.

I've loved books as long as I can remember and I've been writing silly things (like notes, letters, diary entries, lame teen-angsty poems and a ga-gillion story ideas) since I learned to use a pencil.  I decided one fine summer day that maybe I should give one of my many story ideas a chance.  I wrote my first YA novel in 2007-2008 and have since added a picture book, screenplay for a short film, more YA novels, and a plethora of flash fiction (short stories).

I recently attended DePaul University and took grad classes in Writing and Publishing. I'll be starting screenwriting classes at the UCLA Extension Writer's Program this summer. I'm also a member of DarkSide and the Indelibles. I teach German and French at a high school or two in the suburbs of Chicago when I'm not writing. A lot of my characters come straight out of my everyday life. I live with my awesome teacher/law student husband, amazing daughter, and two occasionally stinky Shih Tzus in beautiful Elgin, Illinois.

Take it away Karly!

I thought long and hard about what I could write for my blog post here on BRA. And then I realized it was so simple! What’s the reason we’re all here? Books. Plain and simple.
I must confess, I’m a book addict as well. I was an early reader and was reading chapter books by Kindergarten. I read everything I could get my hands on. My mom got me a library card early as well because every time we’d go to the bookstore, she’d let me pick out 4 books or so. I’d have them all read by dinnertime. In grade school, I was on a Battle of the Books team, where we’d have competitions about books we read. I wish that still existed today. I was tough to beat! We had one bookcase in my house and it was in my room. My house today has 8 bookcases, all overflowing!
I’ve always carried books with me everywhere. In school, there was at least one in my backpack every day. As an adult, I carry my Kindle everywhere. The morning after my wedding, my bridesmaid and I ran to the store to grab the latest installment of Harry Potter before my post-wedding brunch. My husband read it on our honeymoon as we sat on the balcony of our apartment in Nice overlooking the Mediterranean Sea while I read The Great Gatsby and Voltaire’s Candide. People were shocked that we sat and read while we were on our honeymoon. We thought it was perfect. I guess that makes my husband a great catch! I think my eventual path into writing books was inevitable. I live and breathe them.
My daughter started Kindergarten this year and she’s going to learn how to read. I can’t wait to introduce her to the bazillions of books I read and loved as a kid. I’ve saved them all and they’re just waiting on the shelves to meet her. And I’m forever grateful to people like the Book Reader Addicts. They love books and with Facebook and their blog, they can share their love with so many more people. So congrats to the Book Reader Addicts on two awesome years and I hope you have many many more, because my daughter will need a place to commiserate about books when she’s a little older!

Where to find her:

Thank you so much Karly for coming by and celebrating with us!!

17-year-old Vicky Hernandez has a big problem. She's dead. Or not quite. After discovering she's been turned into a vampire, she tries to settle into a quiet suburb of Chicago and return to a normal life. If only she could stop wanting to bite her boyfriend. Not to mention she is dying to find out who turned her, and why. She doesn't have to wait long before they come to her.

Paivi Anderson has it all—friends, a spot on the varsity basketball team, wonderful parents, and quite possibly, her first boyfriend. It was everything a freshman in high school could ask for. Her perfect life begins to crumble when she discovers her name on a list distributed by a power-hungry presidential candidate. How could anyone think of Paivi as an Enemy of the State? Could it be because of her special powers? No one was supposed to know about them, but the mysterious messages in her tater tots say otherwise. In INTO THE SHADOWS, Paivi quickly learns who her friends are and is forced into a reality she didn’t see coming.

Branded as an Enemy of the State, Paivi Anderson left everything behind to start a new life. Torn from her parents and now a fugitive from justice, along with her brother, Torsten, and former frenemy Christian, she is desperate to save her family and escape her country's tyrannical rule . But in order to outsmart the Anti-Terrorism Coalition, she'll need to learn to control her powers. When Paivi discovers the true meaning of the EOS list, she realizes that she may end up saving much more than just her parents.
