J.D. Tyler Blog Tour

I would like to welcome the wonderful J.D. Tyler, author of the Alpha Pack Series. She has been kind enough to take the time out to do an interview with us.

For those of you who don't know J.D. here is a little about her:

J.D. Tyler is an award-winning, multi-published author who writes for New American Library under three pseudonyms. Whether this is due to an overdose of ambition or a multiple personality affliction, she’ll never tell.
J.D. writes dark, sexy paranormal romance and has a huge thing for shifters, vampires, the Fae, and just about everything else that goes bump and grind in the night. She can’t get enough of those dangerous supernatural heroes, and the fun of creating her own was just too much temptation to resist… so she didn’t. J.D. doesn’t do self-denial.
When she isn’t writing, J.D.’s idea of a good time certainly isn’t cleaning house (sniff), bungee jumping (not in this lifetime, or the next), or camping (her idea of “roughing it” is a slow bellboy). She enjoys reading, being pampered like the diva she is, and spending time with her awesome family. She lives in Texas with her two teenagers.

1.      What inspired you to write your first book?

In 2001, I realized that I was starting to become unhappy in my job teaching public school. (A thankless crap job that I endured for 16 years. My hat’s off to you teachers for sticking with it!) One Saturday I literally woke up and said to myself, “Is this it? Is this what I have to look forward to for the rest of my life?” I had always wanted to write books, adult fiction to be exact.
Suddenly the truth was like a bolt of lightning—if I wanted to do this, I had to start now. Right that second. It would likely take me years to become published, so I had to get serious. I did indeed get serious, writing my first and second books before I joined Romance Writers of America and my local chapter, Dallas Area Romance Authors. Almost 6 years after I started writing, I sold my first book!
Now I write full-time, and I have the best career in the world. If I want to have lunch with friends, I can. If I have a doctor’s appointment, I don’t have to donate a kidney to get off work. If my kids need me, I’m available. I couldn’t ask for more!

2. Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

My challenge lies in pacing myself, writing a little each day. Sometimes that’s hard to do when life keeps getting in the way.

3. How do you come up with the titles?

I try to choose a title that catches readers’ attention and is meaningful to what the story is about. For the Alpha Pack series, each title is a play on the hero’s name, which I like.

4. If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?

In BLACK MOON (available today!) I might draw out the final battle scene a bit longer. But overall, I’m very pleased with how it turned out.

5. What books have most influenced your life most?

I’m not sure about influencing my life, but as far as influencing my desire to write I’d have to name Stephen King, Victoria Holt, Johanna Lindsey, and Shirlee Busbee. I devoured their books by the armloads!

6. Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?

There are several, such as Miranda Neville who is new to me and I’m dying to read! But my TBR pile is out of control right now. I’m sure I’ll try one of her historical romances soon!

7. What book are you reading now?

I’m reading THE SEVEN WONDERS THAT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE by Glenn Beck and Dr. Keith Ablow. Very empowering reading!

8. Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

I’d like to tell them what’s up next:
BLACK MOON is available today, December 4, and I’m so excited! Here’s the blurb:
A group of former Navy SEALS, the Alpha Pack is a top-secret team of wolf shifters with Psy powers combating the greatest dangers in the world. But sometime those dangers are more intimate than they bargained for…
Ever since he saved Dr. Mackenzie Grant’s life, panther shifter and sorcerer Kalen Black has had trouble keeping the beautiful doctor out of his thoughts, and his heart. The brush with death awakened an intense passion between them—one that for the first time had the notorious loner letting down his guard.
With the Alpha Pack battling an evil Fae who is slowly gaining control over Kalen’s mind, Kalen can no longer trust his own actions, and he breaks off his affair with Mackenzie in order to keep her safe. But when Mackenzie learns that she is carrying Kalen’s child, no amount of danger will keep her away from the man she loves. To be with his mate and unborn child, Kalen will have to unleash the full fury of his power, and risk destroying them all…

Next up in the series is HUNTER’S HEART, the 4th installment in the Alpha Pack series. (Due to be released in late summer/fall 2013) This is Ryon Hunter’s story, and while I don’t have back cover copy yet to share, I can tell readers that 1) A big secret will be revealed involving the Alpha Pack, regarding a question posed back in PRIMAL LAW and 2) this is a “predator” story. It explores the question—what if one of Malik’s and Dr. Gene Bowman’s test subjects, an innocent human man, was an experiment gone wrong and accidentally got unleashed on the world when the labs were destroyed? Can Ryon, Ryon’s mate Daria, and the Pack save this man inside the creature? They’d better hope so. Because the most dangerous predator is the one you can’t see coming…
In spring of 2013, my Sugarland Blue series that centers on the Sugarland, Tennessee Police Department (written as Jo Davis) launches with the novella ARMED AND DANGEROUS in April. The next month, in May 2013 is the first book, SWORN TO PROTECT. Both the novella and full-length book feature the popular Detective Shane Ford, who first appeared in my Firefighters of Station Five series!
After that, I have two more books under contract—the 5th Alpha Pack book, character and story to be announced, and the 2nd Sugarland Blue book, tentative title HOT PURSUIT (could change). HOT PURSUIT is slated to be Detective Taylor Kayne’s story. Taylor is Shane’s partner in Homicide.

Thank you so much J.D. for stopping by!!! I am so excited for Black Moon!!!!

If you haven't read any of the books check them out!

PRIMAL LAW, Alpha Pack #1

Founded by a group of former Navy SEALS, the Alpha Pack is a top-secret team of wolf shifters with Psy powers tasked with eliminating the most dangerous predators in the world. But the gift of their abilities comes at a price…
After a massacre decimates half his team and leaves him crippled, Jaxon Law must relearn how to fight—and battle the anger and guilt threatening to overwhelm him. But when he rescues a beautiful woman who reawakens his primal instincts, Jax is unprepared for the dangers that lie ahead.
On the run from her employer, brilliant lab assistant Kira Locke has evidence that leads the Alpha Pack on a hunt for someone targeting human civilians with Psy abilities. And as Jax and Kira circle both the killer and each other, Jax will have to decide if the deep connection he feels with Kira is worth breaking the ultimate shifter rule—because bonding with Kira means putting his abilities at risk, and they might be the only tools he has to keep his mate alive…

BLACK MAGIC, An ALPHA PACK novella #1.5

An original Alpha Pack novella featuring the sexy sorcerer and panther shifter Kalen Black… Recruited by the Alpha Pack, Kalen Black is still very much a lone wolf. But when a paranormal creature threatens the life of Dr. Mackenzie Grant, Kalen must use all of his abilities to rescue her. This brush with death excites a passion between them, and after a night of intense pleasure, Kalen leaves Mac with a mysterious gift that just might save her life again.…

SAVAGE AWAKENING, Alpha Pack #2,

But sometime those dangers are more intimate than they bargained for... After a mission goes wrong, Aric Savage is taken prisoner. Half-dead and despairing, he makes a stunning discovery: his Pack mate Micah Chase, who was reported dead, is a fellow captive. When the Alpha team goes into full-rescue mode, accompanying them is an absolute stunner with sable hair--and a spine of solid steel. LAPD officer and Psy Dreamwalker Rowan Chase has one priority: her brother Micah's recovery. Still, she can't help but be drawn to Aric, the ruggedly handsome wolf shifter who pleasures her as no man ever has--however fleeting their affair is destined to be. But when Aric's life is endangered, Rowan must ask herself what she's willing to sacrifice in the name of love, for the man fated to be her Bondmate.

  2. I want to add on to what I said about being glad about leaving teaching--I LOVED my students and they were the best part of teaching. It was the paperwork, politics, and low pay I loathed. Just wanted to make that clear!!

    I do love writing!
